Transition Digital Exhibit
Please let me know if you would like your name to be used in the project. We’d like to properly cite you for your contributions.
This is a project from the Global Poetics Project, funded the the African Poetry Book Fund, the African Poetry Digital Portal, and the Mellon Foundation.
Description:
With a focus on Transition Magazine, this assignment asks you to produce a digital exhibit of your choice for the group-curated digital exhibition. It might help to think of it as a practical component that draws on and shows a sustained engagement with some of the material we have examined and our class discussions. For instance, you might consider a digital exhibit that engages with the histories of Transition Magazine. What key information do you want your intended audience to know? How might you represent the information in your digital exhibit? What format works best for presenting or visually representing this information—maps, network models? Consider the affordances and limitations of the digital tools available to you.
Assignment Options:
For all of the options, we have the data/information available for you. You would need to organize the data utilizing the assigned tool.
A: Maps (tool ArcGIS)
Create a map that presents information about a writer published in or associated with Transition magazine. You might consider representing their places of birth, places where they published their writings, and locations where they lived and worked. Another option might be to consider some issues and represent the locations of the writers/contributors at the time of publication.
B: Network Models(TOOL ONODO)
Create visuals to demonstrate the connected networks of writers, places, or events associated with Transition Magazine. How do these relationships or connections tell a story? How, for instance, might you use network models to tell a story about Transition magazine as an example of the little magazine as a world form?
C: Timelines(TOOL TIMELINESJS)
Create a comprehensive timeline that traces the history of Transition magazine, highlighting key dates, pivotal moments, and significant transitions in its evolution. Include the emergence and departure of major figures or editors, movements within the magazine, and historical events that influenced its trajectory. Consider incorporating milestones such as major funding initiatives and their impact on the magazine's direction. Use visual elements, annotations, and concise descriptions to effectively convey the narrative of Transition magazine's journey through time.
